Overview

This course has been designed to help practitioners understand the importance of Ramadan. It will allow staff and carers to understand the significance of Ramadan to the Muslim faith and the importance of fasting and spiritual observance during this time. 

It will look at a typical day during Ramadan and the festival of Eid-Ul-Fitr. It will also look at the importance of looking at the needs of young Muslims during this time, and contains a list of resources to assist those with care responsibilities.

The learning outcomes for the course are as follows:

  • To understand what Ramadan is
  • To explore the significance of Ramadan
  • To be aware of fasting – what it is, who fasts and why
  • To understand typical Ramadan activities
  • To consider Eid ul-Fitr – marking the end of Ramadan
  • To explore how to support young Muslims in care
  • To be aware of further support and guidance

This course meets the Training, Support, and Development Standards as outlined in The Fostering Services (England) Regulations 2011.
