Overview

Standard 5 sets out what you are expected to know about the development of young people. This standard sets out what you need to know about the development, behaviour, and special needs of the children and young people you look after. 

The main learning objectives of the course are as follows:

  • To understand the fifth standard
  • To be aware of attachment and the stages of development 
  • To understand resilience 
  • To know about transitions 
  • To understand how to support play, activities, and learning 
  • To know how to support educational potential
  • To be aware of contexts 
  • To know how to promote positive sexual health and sexual identity 
  • To understand how to support disabled children and children with special educational needs

This course meets the Training, Support, and Development Standards as outlined in The Fostering Services (England) Regulations 2011.
