This course is a comprehensive guide to understanding what permanent fostering is, and what it means for children in care, foster carers, professionals, and the agencies involved. The course explains what children want and need as they develop through their lives, highlighting the importance of normality, support, and security. The course further explains who, and what is affected by permanent fostering.

The learning objectives are as follows:

  • To understand what permanent fostering is and what it means for children in care, foster carers, professionals, and agencies
  • To know about the role of being a permanent carer
  • To understand what work may need to be done with a child or birth child in preparation for permanence
  • To understand how permanence changes a placement for a child, the foster family, birth family, and the wider community

This course meets the Training, Support, and Development Standards as outlined in The Fostering Services (England) Regulations 2011.
