This course is designed to help carers to understand the meanings of emotional intelligence and empathy fully, so they are equipped to help promote these skills in young people (particularly those who have experienced trauma).

The learning objectives for this course are as follows:

  • To understand the meanings of emotional intelligence and empathy
  • To know why emotional intelligence and empathy matter
  • To be aware of how to encourage emotional intelligence and empathy in children
  • To understand working with those who have experienced trauma
  • To know the importance of communication
  • To know how to achieve emotional well-being for looked after children
