Overview

This course is an extensive look at financial abuse and what it means in a child looked after context. The course begins by detailing and defining financial abuse, and how it can be spotted i.e. some common signs that a child or young person is being financially abused. This course then explains different guidelines to helping someone who is being financially abused and the legislation in place to help them, such as the The Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998, or “Whistleblowers Act”.

The learning objectives for this course are as follows:

  • To understand what financial abuse is
  • To learn about the different types of financial abuse
  • To be aware of the signs of financial abuse
  • To be aware of how to protect a child from being financially abused
  • To learn about capacity and competence
  • To know how to respond to a disclosure of abuse and how to report and record any concerns or allegations

This course meets the Training, Support, and Development Standards as outlined in The Fostering Services (England) Regulations 2011.
