This course requires professionals to look deeply at the attachments, experiences, and cultural influences that make up who they are so that they can build authentic relationships with children, young people, and families – fully appreciating and celebrating the diversity and uniqueness of each individual. It will also look at the different types of bias and how these might affect your day-to-day working.

The main learning objectives of the course are as follows:

  • To learn how to manage diversity and promote equality
  • To know the different types of prejudice and discrimination that can affect colleagues
  • To know why it is important to provide care which respects and preserves each colleague’s protected characteristics as defined by the Equality Act 2010
  • To understand the equality of opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice
  • To know how individuality, difference, and diversity are valued and celebrated
