Overview

Learning disabilities affect the way children and young people develop, as their understanding of information and how they communicate will be very different to a child who does not have a learning disability. This course is a comprehensive guide to caring for the children and young people in your care who have learning disabilities, specifically focussing on autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This course explores what a learning disability is, how it will affect a child’s development, and most importantly, what practical support you can give the child or young person in your care.

The learning objectives are as follows:

  • To understand what learning disabilities are
  • To know the types of learning disabilities
  • To know how to support children with a learning disability
  • To understand what autism is
  • To understand what attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is
  • To understand social understanding and behaviour in children and young people with learning disabilities
  • To understand verbal and non-verbal communication

This course meets the Training, Support, and Development Standards as outlined in The Fostering Services (England) Regulations 2011.

Should you have 5 or more learners requiring this training please consider the face to face option we offer.
