This course will give you an understanding of where challenging behaviours come from and how to manage them effectively, with an aim of managing situations safely and reducing stress and anxiety for all involved.

The learning objectives are as follows:

  • To understand behaviour and recognise risk
  • To know why some young people can display challenging behaviour
  • To be aware of conflict management and challenging behaviour awareness
  • To look at conflict management, challenging behaviour awareness, and disengagement
  • To know the concept of positive behaviour support
  • To learn strategies to support young people with complex behavioural needs
  • To look at strategies that assist and empower young people to communicate effectively
  • To understand the “getting it right for every child” (GIRFEC) approach

This course meets the Training, Support, and Development Standards as outlined in The Fostering Services (England) Regulations 2011.
