Overview

This course is designed to increase the understanding of and professional responses to adolescent to parent violence and abuse (APVA). The course gives a comprehensive insight into APVA, its prevalence, and the legal response to it. The course will also inform you about the impact of APVA and what you can do to identify signs of APVA and respond accordingly.

The main learning objectives of the course are as follows:

  • To know what Adolescent to Parent Violence (APVA) is
  • To know the research and statistics around APVA
  • To understand the Police and Criminal Justice Response to APVA
  • To be aware of barriers, needs, and vulnerabilities
  • To know the impact of domestic abuse and APVA on children
  • To be aware of key risk factors, red flags and to understand home interventions
  • To understand risk and needs assessment
  • To understand support and safety planning and to know the importance of taking care of yourself
  • To be aware of the national helplines and organisations
